International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) is celebrated on 1st October every year to pay attention to the particular needs and challenges faced by many older people.
The year 2021 marks the 31st Anniversary of the International Day of Older Persons. The theme for the International Day of Older Persons 2021 is “Digital Equity for All Ages”.
The day establishes the need for access and meaningful participation for digital world by the older people. The digital world has transformed the lives of people and human relations. But the advancement in technology does not ensure inclusion of all, as one half of world population is still offline. This digital inequity is seen most among women and elderly. Along with comes the problems of cybercrime, misinformation, and breach of privacy of older people.
Objectives of IDOP 2021:
Digital technologies have spread rapidly around the world but digital divide still persists. Enabling all the people to access and use digital technologies should be our priority to achieve the SDGs by 2030.
