Actions/ Therapeutic Uses
It is Anti-spasmodic, Aperient, Expectorant, Detersive, Blood Purifier, Purgative and Tonic. Its seeds are tonic while its leaves are expectorant and aperient.
Seeds are commonly used in skin diseases (Amraaz-e- Jild) and impurity of blood (Fasaad-ud- Dam). They are specially used in Leprosy (Juzaam), Leucoderma (Bars), Ringworm (Qooba), Itch (Hikka), Psoriasis and Piles (Bawaaseer), Indigestion (Tukhma), Flatulence, Dyspepsia, Constipation and Cough and Bronchitis. Seeds are also indicated in the treatment of hypertension, corneal ulcers, cheloid tumours, dizziness due to hypertension, acute conjunctivitis and foul ulcers. It is also very effective in Asthma (Zeeq-un- Nafas). Decoction of the fruit is used in the treatment of fever. It acts as a liver stimulant, mild laxative, nervine and heart tonic. Seeds are slightly bitter and mucilaginous in taste.
The leaves are indicated specially in bronchitis, whooping cough, skin diseases, asthama, paralysis, hemiplegia, plague, foul ulcers and feverish attacks in children.
Its roots are specially indicated in ringworms and plague.
